Disposable mechanical packers

Non-reusable packers for 28–135 mm diameter holes

Compression packer whose rubber expands under mechanical compression. The disposable version is left in the hole after grouting, while the check valve prevents the grout from escaping. It is installed by screwing it in with a dedicated packer nozzle and is particularly suited to tunnelling applications.

Disposable compression packer

How the disposable packer works.

Three stages of using the disposable packer: A, compressing the rubber in the hole; B, grouting past the seal; C, withdrawing the nozzle while the packer stays in the hole.

  1. Rubber compression

    The packer is inserted into the borehole. Operating the packer nozzle compresses the rubber, which expands against the borehole wall.

  2. Grout injection

    The grout passes through the packer nozzle and is injected beyond the seal, penetrating the fissures in the ground.

  3. Packer nozzle recovery

    Once grouting is complete, the nozzle is withdrawn. The packer stays in the borehole and the check valve holds the grout in place.
